Denmark expanding its position as a leader in organic foods
Denmark is expanding its lead as the country with the largest share of organic foods on the market, according to the latest global report. An ever-increasing demand highlights the need to focus on developing this sector, says The Danish Agriculture & Food Council.
The Danish consumers are still the ones who favors most organic products in the shopping cart. The organic market share in the retail trade reached a full 13.3% in 2017, shows new figures from the international report "The World of Organic Agriculture", which has just been published on this year's BioFach in Nuremberg, Germany.
The report, which is published by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and IFOAM - Organics International, also shows that the US is the largest largest organics market in the world with a turnover of roughly 40 billion Euros in 2017. Worldwide, organic foods sales increased by 8.7% in 2017 to about 92 billion Euros.
